Sister Emma Pothast, 94, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, died at 1:33 a.m. Sunday at the St. Francis Home.
She was born September 7, 1918 in Landeck , Ohio to Henry and Adeline (Bonifas) Pothast.
She is survived by a sister, Mildred (Paul) Rayman of Kalida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Esther (Charles) Niedecken, Evelyn (Donald) Deitrick, and Ellen (Joseph ) Mittelkamp; and four brothers, Leo, Arnold, Firmon, and Luke Pothast.
Sister Emma graduated from Edgecliff College in Cincinnati and St. Vincent School of Nursing in Toledo. She served as an elementary teacher in New Washington, Fort Jennings, Delphos, Bucyrus, Peru, Miller City, Bryan and Bismark. She was both an elementary teacher and principal in Millersville and a high school teacher at former St. Francis Convent High School in Tiffin. Sister Emma moved into health-care ministry. She served as a nurse at the motherhouse infirmary in Tiffin and as an administrator and a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo, St. Francis Home in Tiffin and the former St. Anthony’s Orphanage in Toledo. Her ministry then took her to Linton, North Dakota, where she served as the secretary/treasurer at Linton Hospital and worked in administration and nursing.
Change was nothing new to Sister Emma. Later in life she served as a seamstress at the motherhouse, and as the sacristan at St. Francis Convent and at St. Pius X Parish in Sycamore. Her ministry of service led her to continue her nursing skills by volunteering with Seneca County Hospice program and the local Red Cross Bloodmobile. Sister Emma served the community as a Minister of Prayer from 2007 until the time of her death. Sister Emma enjoyed listening to classical music and opera, and doing creative activities. In her own words she said, “God has gifted me with many things. I have just tried to give my best at whatever I am doing.”
The Funeral Mass will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:30-7 p.m. Friday at the St Francis Home Chapel and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Convent Chapel.

Ted J. Rode, 88, formerly of Landeck, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Coldwater Community Hospital in Coldwater, MI.
He was born in Landeck to Sylvester and Leona (Rahrig) Rode, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children; one son Tom (Helen) Rode of Van Wert; four daughters, Karen Rode of Coldwater, MI, Jackie (Joe) Wenzlick of Antwerp, Barb Rode of Coldwater, MI and Jane (Bruce) Carpenter of MI; one brother, Sylvester Rode Jr. of Ft. Jennings; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Duane Rode; two brothers, Louis Rode and Norbert Rode; and three sisters, Sylvia Martin, Zita Martin and Audrey Etgen.
Mr. Rode was a farmer and owner of a trucking company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, with Father Chris Bohnsack officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Elizabeth Smith, 93, of Delphos, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday at Vancrest Healthcare Center.
She was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Paulding County to Joseph and Marie (Hrachovska) Sochor, who preceded her in death.
On July 30, 1941, she married Lloyd Smith, who survives in Delphos.
Other survivors include a son, Donald (Sally) Smith of Hernando, Fla.; two daughters, Susan (John) Ebey of Santa Monica, Calif., and Barb (Kim) Bradshaw of Elida; and two grandchildren, Ryan Bradshaw of Kansas City, Mo., and Laura Bradshaw of Santiago, Chile.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sochor; and three sisters, Mary Straznicky, Bessie Polasek and Anna Allmandinger.
Mrs. Smith was a teller at Commercial Bank for 19 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society and CD of A and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc. She enjoyed baking, sewing, needlework and she loved her grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Melvin Verhoff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where a parish wake will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Patty Ann Wittler, 49, of Hudson, Ind., went home to be with her Lord and savior on Saturday, at her home after a four year battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 19, 1963, in Coldwater, Mich., to Richard and Sara (Hornbrook) Smith, who survive in Fremont, Ind.
On July 20, 1991, she married Rob Wittler, who survives at Turkey Lake, Ind.
Also surviving is her daughter, Jessica (Wittler) Kleman; a son-in-law Brandon; and grandson Evan of Elida; sisters Diane Benroth of Rimer and Debbie (Wayne) Grubbs of Sarasota, Fla.; brothers Tom (Diana) Smith of Battle Ground, Ind., and Mark Smith (Jennifer) of Fremont; and seven nieces and nephews and many aunts and uncles.
Mrs. Wittler attended Fremont High School, Purdue University, International Business College and Indiana Wesleyan, where she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting. The past five years Patty worked in various positions at Cooper Standard in Auburn. Most recently, Patty worked as an IT Budget Analyst where she was able to travel to Germany & Poland. Prior to that, she worked 13 years in the accounting department at Northern Indiana Fuel & Light Co. in Auburn.
She enjoyed gardening, boating, cooking, and entertaining family and friends at the lake. She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister and family in Sarasota. Patty & Rob attended Calvary Chapel of Stroh.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stroh Church of Christ, 4540 S. 1100 West, Hudson, Ind., Pastor Gary Rifenburg officiating. With a meal to follow. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Teeters Cemetery east of Fremont, Ind.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to funeral services Thursday at the church.

E. Louise Barnt Ditto, 88, of Spencerville and formerly of Delphos, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, where she had resided for two and a half years.
She was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Delphos to Henry and Violet Armeda (Davis) Pavel, who preceded her in death.
On Oct. 9, 1940, she married Richard Roy Barnt Sr., who passed away March 6, 1975. On May 14, 1988, she married Kenneth Ditto, who died May 21, 1998.
Survivors include her children, Mary Lou (Roger) Rahrig and Donald T. (Rita Zimper) Barnt of Spencerville, Douglas H. (Connie) Barnt of Clinton, Ky., Anna M. (Mark) Linville of Roseville, Mich., David W. (Rhonda) Barnt of Metropolis, Ill., and Billie J. (Timothy) Voress of Lima; two stepsons, Clyde (Judy) Ditto of Elida and Tom (Pam) Ditto of Delphos; two “adopted daughters”, Cindy Fairburn and Brenda Goodman Klett; one sister, Evelyn M. Wrocklage of Spencerville; one brother-in-law, Bill Tuttle of Spencerville; two daughters-in-law, Jeanne Barnt of Clinton, Ky., and Phillis A. Barnt of Batesville, Ariz.; and 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard R. Barnt, Jr. and Dennis M. Barnt, Sr.; a brother, William Pavel; and a sister, Pat Tuttle.
Mrs. Ditto was a homemaker and wonderful cook and baker. She was a lifetime member of the Monticello United Brethern in Christ Church and its Women’s Missionary Society and a “Prayer Warrior” of the church.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Monticello Church, the Reverend Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the New Salem Cemetery, south of Monticello.

Father Louis S. Heitz, 81 of Cridersville died at 9:32 a.m. on Friday at St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by loving family.
Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Fort Jennings, he was the son of Otto and Rose (Stauterman) Heitz, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sisters Mary (Virgil) German, Joan (George) Ross and Betty Grace; a sister in-law, Dorothy Heitz; and 21 nieces and nephews, 47 great nieces and nephews and 28 great, great nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Heitz; three brothers, Robert, Frank and Ralph Heitz; and one brother in-law, Oris Grace.
Father Heitz attended Minor Seminary at St. Meinrads in Meinrad, Ind., and Major Seminary at Immaculate Conception in Conception, Mo. Father was ordained on April 6, 1957, in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Conception, Missouri.
Father Heitz had been a resident of Otterbein Independent Living in Cridersville for the past 10 years, where he continued his priestly ministry saying Mass for residents who were fondly known as his parishioners. Father also continued to administer the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. During this time, niece Jean (Steve) Hull and nephew David (Debbie) Heitz became an integral part of his daily life allowing Father to continue his service to the Church.

On Wednesday, his body will lie in state at his home parish, St. John’s Evangelist Church in Delphos beginning at 9 a.m. Immediately following is a Mass of Christian Burial scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Most Reverend Bishop William Higi, of Lafayette, Indiana, officiating and Father Michael McKinley of St. Joseph, Winchester, Indiana as homilist. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where a rosary will begin 7:30 p.m.

Jack L. Myers, 79, of Elida passed away Saturday at Vancrest Healthcare Center in Delphos.
He was born at home in Rimer to Edwin “Ted” and Naomi E. (Sherry) Myers, who preceded him in death.
On June 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary E. (Wreede), who survives in Elida.
Survivors also include one son, Tim Myers of Columbus; three daughters, Laura (Steve) Miller of Celina, Nancy Myers (Jeff Sink) of Findlay and Sherry (Greg) Jacobs of Elida; one sister, Ruth Wassink of Elida; one brother, Terry (Janet) Myers of Elida; six grandchildren; Angela (Kiel) Dennison, Alicia (Ben) Kehres, Nick (Karen) Jacobs, Andrea Wicker, Aaron Jacobs and Heather Jacobs; two step grandchildren, Scot (Kylie) Miller and Mat (Mandy) Miller; and six great-grandchildren; Peyton Jacobs, Mathew Miller Jr., Brandon Kehres, Samantha Kehres, Logan Miller and Lexys Miller.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Jacobs; a sister, Mary Lawrence; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Lawrence and Joe Wassink Sr.
Mr. Myers served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1954 and was a Korean War Veteran. He worked for the Ford Motor Company for 33 years and was the building chairman of the parsonage and the church, superintendent of the church and taught Sunday School for many years. He was affiliated with many sports-oriented clubs and for several years, was the Elida Athletic Booster president.He established and coached teams in the Midget Football League in Elida, coached baseball and softball for 33 years and assisted with running the chains during football games for many years. He volunteered his time at the Lima Senior Citizen’s Center during bingo and also offered his free time at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Mr. Myers was a member of the Immanuel Methodist Church in Elida, the VFW Post 9648 William N Witteborg, Sr. Memorial Post in Columbus Grove, the American Legion and the Lions Club in Elida and graduated from Vaughnsville High School in 1951.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Elida. Military Grave Rites will be given by the Delphos Veterans Council. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Elida.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Lucy L. (Daley) Brickner, 93, of Lima, passed at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at her residence.
She was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Lima to Pete and Mary (Pisanelli) Daley, who preceded her in death.
She married Richard Brickner on September 4, 1943. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2004.
Surviving are four children; Rocky (Bev) Brickner of Elida, Joe (Connie) Brickner of Shawnee, Kan., Nancy Taflinger of Elida and Patty (John) Singer of Coconut Creek, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three siblings; Tom (Pat) Daley of Findlay, Louie (Barb) Daley of Lima and Mary McMurray of Ventura, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a special son-in-law, Jim Taflinger; and three siblings; Frankie Daley, Vinnie Hughes and Bessie Kunkle.
Mrs. Brickner retired from Westinghouse in 1990. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary and American Legion Post 96. She was a volunteer for St. Vincent dePaul Society and a 1938 graduate of St. Gerard High School. She was a great mom, a great grandma and a great great-grandma. In her wonderful Italian tradition, she was the matriarch of the family. She never met a stranger and brought a smile to the face of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her laugh and sense of humor were contagious and the stories of her life experiences left all who listened in stitches. But most of all, she was best known for her kindness, compassion and love. She simply never stopped giving. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Her love will live in our hearts forever.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church, the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Mary O. Purdy, 92 of Delphos passed away at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at her granddaughter’s house in St. Marys.
She was born on May 24, 1920, in Van Wert to Howard and Addie (Davis) Parks, who preceded her in death.
On Nov. 25, 1942, she married Floyd D. Purdy, who passed away on July 25, 1988.
Survivors include three sons, Robert (Carol) Purdy of Holgate, Harold “Bill” Purdy of Lima and Charles (Brenda) Purdy of St. Marys; two daughters, Norma (William) Ladd of Cloverdale and Jeannette Burnett of Defiance; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-greatgranddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by two infant sons and son Paul Purdy; an infant daughter; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bell Miller and Jeannie Jerome.
Mrs. Purdy was a housewife and a member of the Delphos Wesleyan Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. on Friday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Billy “Bill” Joe Stephenson

Billy “Bill” Joe Stephenson, Jr., 58, of rural Spencerville, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Friday at St. Rita’s Medical Center from complications due to a fall on ice at his work in Delphos on the 28th of January.
He was born Feb. 27, 1954, in St. Marys to Billy Joe and Ruth Evelyn (Glasco) Stephenson, Sr., who survive in Spencerville.
Also surviving are two brothers; Scott O. (Pam) Stephenson of Shawnee and Eric D. (Kathy) Stephenson of Delphos; one sister, Sheila R. Stephenson of Kimball, TN; a niece, Vanessa Stephenson of Spencerville; two nephews; Caleb Stephenson of Spanaway, WA, and Drew Stephenson of Shawnee; and great niece Alex Stephenson.
Mr. Stephenson was employed as a truck driver with the Palmer-Donavin Company in Delphos covering territories in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan for several years. He also worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in St. Marys and at Farm Service Company in the Fertilizer Equipment Division in Spencerville.
He was a 1972 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was a member and trustee with the Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Assn. in Spencerville, where he enjoyed cooking meals for their many activities. He also took pleasure in cooking for the Spencerville VFW post. He raised and sold specialty chickens and enjoyed bowling.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with Pastor Robert King officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.

George W. Patton, 87, of Delphos passed away at 4:35 a.m. Sunday at Primrose Retirement Community in Lima.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1925, in Delphos to Harry and Zellma (Lutz) Patton, who preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Latham in 1942. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1996. He then married Dottie McKarney Shetler in 1998, who preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2008.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Sharon Bailey Hanes and Jackie Caprella of Lima; two sisters, Mary Ann Dunlap of Delphos and Maxine Custer of Lima; nieces and nephews; five step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; extended families, the Robinsons and the Hunts.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eris Jones; a brother, Lloyd Patton; and his pet goat.
Mr. Patton was a welder for Ford and also worked for Lima Locomotive. He was a member of the Southside Christian Church of Christ of Delphos, Lima Eagles, the Masons, Airstream Club and Archery Club. He was a Delphos Jefferson High School graduate.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, the Reverend Wanda Werking officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home, where a Masonic Service begins at 8 p.m. Friday.

Diane R. Storer, 63, of Van Wert died at 4:09 p.m. Friday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born July 16, 1949, in Fort Jennings to Leonard and Vera (Lucke) Menke, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include six children, Andrew Russell (Connie) Storer Jr. of Oregon, Mary Elizabeth (Heath) Kornblum of San Francisco, Matthew (Sarah) Storer of Oregon, Jamie (fiance Krista Olson Reese) Storer of Oregon, Samantha (Christopher) Schnepp of Van Wert and Linda (Lex Kisteneff) Lehmkuhle of South Carolina; seven siblings, Judy (Kate Anthony) Menke of Cincinnati, Patricia Menke of Denver, N.C., Michael (Tammy) Menke of Convoy, Lawrence (Laura) Menke of Delphos, Jeffrey (Trudie) Menke of Fort Jennings, Marjorie (Joseph) Lehmkuhle and Todd (Armella) Menke of Delphos; a sister-in-law, Theresa Menke of Middle Point; and 13 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah Rebecca Storer and Jessica Rose Storer, who both died in infancy; and two brothers, William Menke and John Menke.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center Chapel.

Sarah Ann Bowdle

Sarah Ann Bowdle, age 64, of Edgerton, died at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, , at Parkview Region Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she was admitted on Saturday.
She was born on Nov. 22, 1948, in Lima to George William and Florence E. “Tutty” (Berry) Tegenkamp, who preceded her in death.
She was the widow of Jack E White and she married Don E. Bowdle on July 22, 2000. He survives in Edgerton.
Survivors also include a daughter, Angela (Mike) Dziurgot, of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Aaron (Donna) White, of Lima; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy Cunningham, of Largo, Fla., Terry (Terry) Martin of Payne and Rebecca (Tony) Campos of Watsonville, Calif.; and two brothers, Mark Tegenkamp of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Rick (Gina) Tegenkamp of Salinas, Calif.
Mrs. Bowdle was a licensed practical nurse and had worked as a dialysis nurse at St. Rita’s Hospital and Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima for many years, as well as with other dialysis centers. Most recently, she was nursing manager with Evergreen Manor Nursing Center in Montpelier. She was a longtime emergency medical technician while living in Delphos and Spencerville. Sarah enjoyed fishing, garage sales, traveling, especially on the Harley, reading, making jewelry and furniture refinishing and was also an accomplished bowler.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Terry Martin officiating.

Helen Jean Boroff, 80, of rural Spencerville died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in the Laurels of Shane Hill Care Center in Rockford.
She was born August 17, 1932 in Elgin to George Marcus and Hazel Evelyn (Graham) Martin, who preceded her in death.
On June 1, 1957, she was married to Ronald W. “Ace” Boroff, who died on June 11, 2012.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Mendon Cemetery, Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Laurels of Shane Hill Activities Fund.

Robert ‘Rich’ McNeil

Robert “Rich” McNeil, 73, of Beaverdam, died at 12:29 a.m. Thursday at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1939, in Grundy, Va., to Clyde and Elizabeth (Looney) McNeil, who preceded him in death.
In 1981, he married Linda Clark Ladd, who survives in Beaverdam.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Pastor Rodney Shade officiating. Burial will be in Cascade Cemetery in Cloverdale.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
