LIMA — Eugene H. Augsburger age 93, passed away at 1 a.m. Thursday at the Lima Convalescent Nursing Home.

Eugene was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Beaverdam to Reuben and Leah (Tscheigg) Augsburger, who preceded him in death.

On Sept. 20, 1947, he married Virginia Neuenschwander Augsburger, who preceded him in death on April 23, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan M. (Dennis) Wilhelm of Delphos; two grandsons, Lynn (Margie) Wilhelm of Hanford, California, and Rob (Alisa) Wilhelm of Ohio City; and three great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, one great-great-grandson and one on the way.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Crawford and Dorothy Williams.

Gene was a 1939 graduate of the Beaverdam High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart, five Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead. After returning home from his time in the military, he took a sales position and eventually became sales manager with Klay Supply and stayed for more than 40 years until he retired in 1990. After retiring, he then also worked in sales with Steve Meyers Service until he retired in 2000.

Gene was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church since 1981. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 96, VFW Post 1275 and a life-member of the BPOE 54.

There will be a funeral service held at the Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, Lima, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora following the service.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military Rites are being provided by the U.S. Army and the VFW Post 1275.

SPENCERVILLE — George William “Bill” Agler, 84, of rural Spencerville, died at 11:51 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, following a short illness.

He was born April 26, 1931, in Van Wert, the son of Albert W. “Boots” and Olive May Partin Agler, who are deceased.

On Nov. 24, 1951, he married Betty J. Strayer, who died May 21, 2007. Then on Jan. 13, 2009, he married Margaret L. Kline Strawn, who survives in Spencerville.

Also surviving are two children: Tom A. (Sharon) Agler and Kimberly J. “Kim” Wood, both of Spencerville; five stepchildren: Cheryl (Mike) Zumberge, Dennis (Betty) Strawn and Rhonda (Mick) Stose, all of Celina, John (Denise) Strawn of Mendon and Christina (Brad Hull) Strawn, also of Celina; four grandchildren: Tom A. (Stacey) Agler, Jr. of Lima, Amy S. (Ron) Reineke of St. Marys, Megan E. Herold and Brian E. Wood II, both of Spencerville; six great-grandchildren: Koby, Gavin and Audrey Reineke, Chloe Agler and Bryce and Blaine Belcher; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was a 1949 graduate of the Van Wert High School.

Bill was a long-time member of the Hartford Christian Church where he had been Sunday School superintendent and deacon. He enjoyed his Florida winters and camping. For 44 years he and his family owned and operated their lemonade stand at the Allen County and Van Wert County Fairs.

He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Van Wert where he loved and was good at billiards.

He had worked on the Penn Central Railroad several years and the Allen County Engineers of Office and retired in 1986 as Superintendent of the Ohio Dept. of Transportation, Lima.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. The Rev. Gary Hohman will officiate.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are to the donors choice.

DELPHOS — Vernon Robert Kill, 94, of Delphos passed away at 1:35 p.m. Saturday at Vancrest in Delphos.

He was born May 26, 1920, in Landeck to Richard J. and Mildred E. (Savidge) Kill, who preceded him in death.

On Sept. 25, 1948, he married Vena Mae Mousa, who preceded him in death on May 17, 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Virgil (Linda) Kill of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, and Vincent Kill of Altamonte Springs, Florida; a daughter, Vera (Terry) Edmonds of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; a surrogate daughter, Carolyn Brenneman of Elida; a sister, Jeanetta “Peg” Osting of Delphos; grandchildren, Stacie Lynn Jones, Troy (Michelle) Arnold, Sandra (Douglas) Knauf, Levi Z. Kill and Alexis (Aaron) Shaw; stepgrandchildren, James (Elizabeth) Brenneman, Jason (Linda) Brenneman, Travis (Nikki) Edmonds, Adam (Emily) Edmonds, Ashley Edmonds Hayes and Elizabeth (Benjamin) Bynum; great-grandchildren, Riley Vivian, Gabrielle Grace, Charlotte Faith, Justin Dakota, Caitlyn Shelby, Cade Owen and Killian Gerald; step-great-grandchildren, Madison Jewell, Emily Camille, Lindsay Elyse, Eli Jayden and Macon Manly; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Marie Brenneman; granddaughter, Hillary Renee Kill; and sister, Alice Nagel.

He was the founder and owner of Kill’s Home Improvements, worked for 19 years in real estate and also was a salesman for 17 years at Lino-Trim Moldings. He was a World War II Army veteran with service in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. One of his greatest blessings was his visit to Rome and seeing and receiving a blessing from the Holy Father.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree; VFW post in Delphos and Spencerville; Lima Elks; past president of the Delphos Recreation Board; Optimist Club; and Van Wert Board of Realtors.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mom and his thoughtfulness brought our family together for 11 years of wonderful, unforgettable gatherings in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, for our Christmas in July.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery with military grave rites held by Delphos Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home with a Parish Wake at 7:30 p.m. and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions to St. John’s Parish Foundation or the school.
