LaDonna M. “Brownie” Metzger, 87, of Spencerville, died at 4:47 a.m. Sunday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

She was born July 9, 1926, in Hume to Ortha and Lea (Bowsher) Fantz, who preceded her in death.

On Aug. 12, 1944, she married Vernon Metzger, who preceded her in death on June 30, 2004.

Survivors include a son, Lyle Metzger of Spencerville; two daughters, Cheryl (Nick) George of Lima and Deb (Bill Harman) Laudick of Spencerville; six grandchildren, Angela (Timothy) Wagner of Bluffton, Paula (Matt) Russell of Toledo, Lorrie George and Rusty George of Lima, Stacy Friesner of Russells Point and Bill Harman Jr. of Mason; and six great-grandchildren, Elijah Wenger, Aiden Stewart, Tyler Friesner, Maddie Friesner, Joey Harman and Brady Harman.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donovan Fantz.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. today at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Elaine Mikesell officiating. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Roselawn Manor Activity Fund or donor’s choice.

Ralph E. PrineRalph E. Prine, 56, of Delphos, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1957, in Lima to Larry Prine and Betty (Carles) Moser. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Findlay.

On March 31, 1980, he married Lucy M. Barnett, who survives in Delphos.

Other survivors include three daughters, Yvonne (Ben) Twining and Lena (Brian) Bailey of Lima and Sarah Prine of Delphos; two sisters, Virginia Christman of Findlay and Patty Prine of Tulsa, Okla.; four brothers, Larry (Sharon) Prine of Howe, Ind., Dennis (Stephanie) Prine and Rodney (Kay) Prine of Lima and Eddie (Becky) Prine of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Colton and Ayden Bailey of Lima; three granddaughters by heart, Skylynn Prine, Dakota Gallaspie and Savannah Gallaspie of Lima; 18 nieces and nephews and 28 great-nieces and nephews; and his stepmother, Mary Prine of Tulsa.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Ron Moser; and a brother, Jay Allen Strunk.

Ralph worked at Army’s Auto Wrecking for more than 30 years as a parts mechanic. He graduated in 1976 from Lima Senior High School. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling and watching the Browns and Ohio State football. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Libby.

Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Pastor Wayne Prater officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family.

Evelyn M. Thatcher, 83, of Delphos and formerly of Lima, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday in St. Rita’s Medical Center, following an extended illness, with her daughters and family at her side.

She was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Spencerville, to Charles M. and Grace I. (Counts) Harruff, who preceded her in death.

On June 27, 1953, she married Ira C. Thatcher, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1982.

She is survived by four daughters, Karen E. Robey, Kimberly E. Zimmerman and Donna M. (Gus) Cira, all of Lima and Dorothea M. (Timothy) Siefker of Delphos; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Emerson E. (Beverly) Thatcher of Lincoln, Ill.; a sister, Kathryn L. Gay of Lima; and a sister-in-law, Janet Harruff of St. Marys.

Evelyn was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Kathy and Alice Thatcher; two brothers, Kenneth F. Thatcher and Willis O. Thatcher; and two sisters, Ruth D. Isham and Edna M. Edens.

She had worked as a cook at the Allen Inn and Lost Creek Care Centers in Lima and also for Service America. Later on, she maintained the Wapakoneta Rest Stops on I-75. She loved being with her daughters and her many grandchildren. She enjoyed watching the old Western movies and the Hallmark channels.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with the Rev. John Spyker officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodwin Cemetery near Elgin.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Alice M. FischbachAlice M. Fischbach, 83, of Fort Jennings, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at her residence.

She was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Fort Jennings to Fred and Martha (Ricker) Lucke, who preceded her in death.

She married Raphael J. Fischbach, who passed on June 6, 1993.

Survivors include a son, Kenny (Julie) Fischbach of Fort Jennings; two daughters, Lynette Fischbach of Elida and Cheryl Feathers of Fort Jennings; seven sisters, Betty (Rick) Ricker, Wilma Humpert and Josie (Arnie) Mohler all of Delphos, Norma Burgei of Ottoville, Doris (Art) Neidert and Karen (Larry) Heitmeyer both of Fort Jennings and Sister Mary Ann Lucke of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, Ruth Lucke of Fort Jennings; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, David and Paul Fischbach; a sister, Vera Menke; three brothers, John, Elmer and Donald Lucke; and one grandson, Ryan Feathers.

She worked at JCPenney for 22 years.

Mrs. Fischbach enjoyed crocheting and working of crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Jennings, where there will be a memorial visitation one hour prior to the service with the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where there will be a Parish Wake at 7:30 p.m.

Lois Catherine (Landwehr) KeckLois Catherine (Landwehr) Keck, 88, of Delphos, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Delphos, to Carl and Katherine (Klevorn) Landwehr, who preceded her in death.

On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Darrol Rell Keck, who survives in Delphos.

Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann (Robert) Warner of Elida; a sister, Helen (John) Haehn of Wapakoneta; two brothers, Bernard Landwehr of Kentucky and Harold (Joan) Landwehr of Lima; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Warner of Elida, Brian Warner of Chattanooga, Tenn., and James (Julie Foster) Warner of Elida.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Hiller, Jeanne Bendele and Ruth Bensman; and a brother, Donald Landwehr.

Mrs. Keck was a bookkeeper at the Delphos Bending Company for 12 years and then at St. John’s Grade School for 25 years.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America.

Mrs. Keck enjoyed camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed attending weekly Mass and sending cards to friends on special occasions and spending time with her grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Dave Reinhart officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where there will be a Parish Wake at 7:30 p.m.

Treva M. McDougleTreva M. McDougle, 89, of Ottawa and formerly from Leipsic, died Saturday at the Vancrest Care Center, Delphos.

She was born near Rockport on June 12, 1924, to Byron and Effie (Warnock) Wood, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Jeffery B. (Diane) McDougle of Delphos; her daughter, Pamela A. Brenamen of Fostoria; grandchildren, Robyn, Scott, Amy, Adam, Benjamin and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death also were her infant brother, Waldo Wood; sisters, Lucille Schreck and Neva McDougle, who was Treva’s twin; and several nieces and nephews.

Treva attended Columbus Grove School and helped work on the family farm during her youth. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leipsic, and also was a member of the Modern Mothers Club. She had been employed as a lab technician with the Libby, McNeil and Libby Co., prior to which she worked in retail with Ruben’s Department Store, both formerly of Leipsic. In her later lifetime, she was an in-home care provider, lending assistance to many. She enjoyed watching and even kept a running record of scores of many sports events, especially football games.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes were her absolute favorite teams. Treva loved music; she was a friend to all a “Mom” to the whole neighborhood when her children were growing up.

Visitation at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, Pastor Rich Rakay officiating. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, near Columbus Grove. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Vernon W. Heatwole, 86, of Delphos, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning.

He was born June 15, 1927, in Elida to William and Dora (Powell) Heatwole, who preceded him in death.

On Aug. 5, 1948, he married Miriam Brunk, who survives in Delphos.

Survivors also include his son, Michael (Deb) Heatwole of Elida; four daughters, Lavonne (Jerry) Simpson of Gainsville, Fla., Joan (John) Gerig of Medford, Ore., Shirley (Sam) Whitt of Lima and Jan (Dick) Warrington of Columbus Grove; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil, Raymond and Lewis Heatwole; sisters, Alma Hartzler and Grace Heatwole; and granddaughter, Shannon Whitt.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, the Rev. Tim Thurston officiating. Burial will be at Pike Mennonite Cemetery in Elida.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Delores B. Meeker, 78, of Lima, died at 11:35 p.m. Friday at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Putnam County, to Edward and Dorothy (Bigelow) Horstman, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are six children, Rick Horstman, Doneta (Greg) Horstman-Smith, William (Sue) Meeker, Jerry Meeker and Larry (Tamara) Meeker of Lima and Lynn (Sherri) Meeker Jr. of Dayton; three siblings, Euletta Von Sossan of Delphos, Agatha (George) Kerns of Fort Jennings and Gerald Horstman of Delphos; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Kent Crisp; and siblings, Denelda Brokamp, Rita Hemker, Carl Horstman and Harold Horstman.

Mrs. Meeker was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She retired from the Howard Johnson’s as a night auditor.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, Lima, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fort Jennings.

Visitation for Mrs. Meeker will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The following individuals appeared Tuesday before Judge Charles Steele in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court:

Probation violation

Christopher L. Blue, 34, Van Wert, admitted violating his probation by having a positive drug test and by refusing to attend Recovery Group.

He was re-sentenced to three years community control under the same conditions as before with the additional condition of up to six months at the WORTH Center.

An 11-month prison term was deferred.

Sentencings

Nicollette Collins, 23, Oakwood, was sentenced for possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree.

Her sentence was: three years community control, up to six months at WORTH Center, 30 days jail, 200 hours community service, two years intensive probation, driver’s license suspended six months, ordered to pay court costs and partial appointed attorney fees.

An 11-month prison term was deferred pending completion of community control.

Harold Eldridge, 38, Paulding, was sentenced for possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree.

His sentence was: five years community control, up to six months at WORTH Center after he completes any sentence in Indiana, 30 days jail, 200 hours community service, two years intensive probation, ordered to pay court costs and partial appointed attorney fees.

A 12-month prison term was deferred pending completion of community control.

Taylor Agler, 21, Van Wert, was sentenced following her previous admission to violating her probation in two separate cases. She was re-sentenced to three years community control under the same conditions as before with the additional condition of up to six months at the WORTH Center.

A nine-month prison term on each case was deferred.

Matthew Foehl, 28, Convoy, was sentenced for trafficking drugs, a felony of the fifth degree; and for possession of drugs, also a felony of the fifth degree.

His sentence was: three years community control, up to six months at WORTH Center, 30 days jail, 200 hours community service, two years intensive probation, driver’s license suspended six months, ordered to pay restitution of $ 300 to the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force, court costs and partial appointed attorney fees.

A nine-month prison term was deferred pending completion of community control.

The automobile used in the crimes was ordered forfeited to the task force.

Ruth 'Tula' KlemanRuth “Tula” Kleman, 99, of Delphos, died at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday at Vancrest in Delphos.

She was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Putnam County, to Alexander and Katie (Hetrick) Dunlap, who preceded her in death.

She married Gilbert John Schulte, who preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1935.

She then married Charles Louis Kleman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1970.

Survivors include three sons, Jerome (Wilma) Kleman of Newark, Keith (Julia) Kleman of Venedocia and George (Joyce) Kleman of Wadsworth; two daughters, Raylene (Elmer) Fischer of Delphos and Charlotte Smith of Burleson, Texas; a brother, Paul (Bea) Bill Dunlap of Cridersville; a daughter-in-law, Joan Schulte of Fort Jennings; a sister-in-law, Joyce Dunlap of Springfield; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert “Bud” Dunlap and Kenneth Dunlap; seven sisters, Iona Hole, Gert Fetzer, Lill Dunlap, Dodie Fetzer, Nell Vogt-Dickman, Pat Dickman and Leah Fetzer; a son, Gilbert Schulte; a daughter, Alvina H. Stallkamp; two sons-in-law, Carl Smith and Bill Stallkamp; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Kleman was a house wife and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary #471, a life member of VFW Auxiliary #3035 and American Legion Auxiliary #268.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Father Chris Bohnsack officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottoville.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where there will be an Eagles Auxiliary service at 5 p.m., a VFW Auxiliary service at 7 p.m. and a Parish Wake at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Delphos Senior Citizens Transportation Fund, Vancrest Activities Department or State of the Heart Hospice.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maxine Gordon; and an uncle, Richard Gordon.

Her Family…. She was born February 17, 1958, in Lima to Donald and June (Weber) Link. On Nov. 17, 1978, she married Joel A. Gerdemann.

Nora is survived by her husband of 35 years, Joel A. Gerdemann; her mother, June Link; two daughters, Jennifer Gerdemann and Amy Gerdemann (Jack Rodabaugh); a son, Joel Andrew (Shannon) Gerdemann; four grandchildren, Aubrey Gerdemann, Adelyn Gerdemann, Collin Gerdemann and Brett Rodabaugh; four brothers, Chris (Tina) Link, Tim Link, Nick (Julie) Link and Pat (Julie) Link; a sister, Sara (Lyn) Powers; mother-in-law, Catharine Gerdemann; sister-in-law, Margie (Dan) Rostorfer; and a brother-in-law, John (Laurie) Gerdemann.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Link; father-in-law, Norbert Gerdemann; and brother-in-law, Mark Gerdemann.

Her Legacy…. Nora was a farm wife, where she received The Ohio Young Farm Wife of The Year Award in 1988. She was also the General Manager at McDonald’s of Delphos for 22 years, where she won numerous Manager of The Year Awards. She was a 1976 graduate of St. John’s High School and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time. She also volunteered at the Delphos Interfaith Thrift Store. She was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Blue Jay fan.

Her Farewell Services.… Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Chris Bohnsack officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Mildred E. Youngpeter PancakeMildred E. Youngpeter Pancake, former Delphos resident, died on Sunday morning at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Delphos.

Her Family…She was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Delphos to Dorothy G. and Gregory P. Wiechart, who preceded her in death.

She married her loving husband, Louis T. Youngpeter, on May 17, 1944, who preceded her in death, July 17, 1974. She married William Pancake, Dec. 28, 1983, who survives.

Survivors include her son, Neal (Lola) Youngpeter, San Tan Valley, AZ, her daughter-in-law, Judy Sudhoff, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tony Youngpeter, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Kelly (David) Youngpeter Laux, of Fort Recovery, Lori (David) Youngpeter Wendt, of Avon, Rene Youngpeter Mueller, of Delphos, Angie (Matt) Youngpeter Marqueling of Gilbert, Ariz., Amy (Scott) Youngpeter Geier, of Lima and Kristy Youngpeter, of Colorado Springs, Colo. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Stephen and Katie Marqueling, Kyle Youngpeter, Jodi and Aaron Laux, Charlie and Jack Wendt and Brooklyn, Lincoln, Evelyn, and Carolyn Mueller. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as, Eugene Youngpeter, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Youngpeter.

Step-daughters include Barbara (Dale) Pancake Eppley, Judith (Gary) Pancake-Summersett Painter, Jane (Lynn) Pancake Oechsle, and LuAnn (Doug) Pancake Watson. She is survived by several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Steyer, and her oldest son, Kenneth Youngpeter.

Her Legacy…“Mid”, as she was called was a true pioneer woman, having survived breast cancer in the 50’s. She worked at the National Seal for many years, and especially enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and also attended many grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an avid baker; family enjoyed her delicious homemade pies at every holiday gathering. She met life crisis and challenge through strong faith and prayer. She was a member of Delphos St. John the Evangelist Church, and Van Wert St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Her Farewell Services… Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Delphos, the Rev. Dave Reinhart officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Strayer Funeral Home, Delphos, where a Parish Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.

Robert E. HaunhorstRobert E. Haunhorst, 83, of Delphos, died at 12:24 p.m. Friday at Vancrest in Delphos.

He was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Perrysburg, to Isadore and Ellean (Shumaker) Haunhorst, who preceded him in death.

He married Bert (Knittle) Haunhorst on Aug. 27, 1949. She survives in Delphos.

Survivors also include his son, Jay (Sharon) Haunhorst of Carthage, N.C.; his daughter, Tonya (Mike) Bohyer of Elida; his daughter-in-law, Louise Haunhorst of Landeck; 5 grandchildren, Jill (Brian) Wurst, Aaron (Christin) Haunhorst, Todd (Trisha) Haunhorst, Cara (Travis) Sherrick and Eric (Rachel) Bohyer; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Haunhorst; and his brother, Melvin Haunhorst.

Robert worked for the Nickel Plate/N&W Railroad for 40 years. He was also an Army veteran.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, the American Legion, VFW, the Sportman’s Club, Foresters-Landeck Chapter and the NRA.

Robert enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors and with family. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. He planted many trees and was an accomplished woodworker and beekeeper.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Delphos St. John the Evangelist Church, Father Chris Bohnsack officiating. Delphos Veteran’s Council will conduct military graveside rites following the Mass at the church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a Parish Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes, Disabled Vets or to the donor’s choice.
