Elvin A.J. ‘Dick’ Patton

Elvin A.J. “Dick” Patton, 90, of Delphos, died on Wednesday morning at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born February 14, 1923, in Delphos to Carl A. and Alfreda (Best) Patton, who preceded him in death.
On June 12, 1942, he married Juanita M. Pollock, who died on July 6, 1966.
He is survived by a daughter, Candace L. (John) Shafer of Delphos; three sons, Michael A. Patton of Cincinnati, Patrick M. (Sherry) Patton of Delphos and Jay S. (Molly) Patton of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, R. Patricia Patton of Delphos and Mary (Charles) Say of Van Wert.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Patton; sister, Clarabelle (Norbert) Grewe; and a longtime companion, Marjorie Barnt.
Mr. Patton retired as executive vice president/cashier after over 30 years in banking from the former Commercial Bank. He attended the American Institute of Banking, where he received multiple certificates of banking. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Delphos; Delphos Country Club, The Elks, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during W.W. II and Korea.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Stan Szybka, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, where the Delphos Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Athletic Boosters or The Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
